The photographer Antoun Albert was one of the most important photographers in Egypt, because he was coeval with numerous important historical events and personalities who had influence on political, literary and artistic life in Egypt. Mr. Albert photographed Nubian life in the south and was able to record an important period in Nubian history. These records have lately been collected by the Center for Documentation of Cultural and Natural Heritage, and have been issued in a book entitled Nubia Through Two Eras. The importance of this book is not limited to recording some forms of the life in Nubia; its great importance is that it records the story of the movement from the old Nubia to modern Nubia and the lifestyles that the Nubians experienced in those two periods. It also records the various phases of the construction of the High Dam, the changing locations of the ancient temples, and the scientific missions that visited Nubia. This book became a complete story of all sides, which enables a person interested in the subject to draw an exceptionally complete picture of an important transitional epoch in Nubian history, which has changed its characteristics and social structure.
